Grounding reduces hallucination by anchoring model outputs to retrieved or provided facts. Techniques include RAG (injecting relevant documents into context), tool use (querying live APIs), and citation enforcement (requiring the model to quote its sources). Google Search grounding in Gemini is a commercial implementation that queries live search results before generating.
